Landslide blocks Karnali Highway in Western Nepal

JAJARKOT: Transportation on the Karnali Highway has been disrupted by a landslide occurred near the Kale stream along the Kalikot section.
Kalikot Chief District Officer Chandra Bahadur Karki said the landslide damaged the road severely. The landslide debris has also deposited on the 40 meter- section.
Prior to this, landslides on small scales were cleared on time, but this time, it seems challenging to remove due to its nature. It may take a long time to restore the damaged road. A team from the District Administration Office and another technical team from the Road Division Office have left for the site for inspection. The road has come to a complete halt.
As a result, the passengers have been urged to cancel their trips via the route. Containers and passenger buses en route to Kalikot via Surkhet and Nepalgunj have been left stranded, said District Administration Officer of Jumla, Durga Banjade, adding that it was trying to find suitable equipment to clear off the landslide debris. With the highway obstruction, the people of Jumla face the compulsion of using an air route for travel.
