Lalitpur remains closed for second day against squatters resettlement

LALITPUR: Lalitpur residents have enforced a Lalitpur shutdown today also to protest the government’s decision to relocate the squatters in Sundarighat of the district.

The government had earlier removed the squatters from the UN Park on the bank of the Bagmati River at Thapathali and decided to settle them at Sundarighat in Lalitpur.

The market, businesses and shops are closed in Lalitpur due to the general strike. Similarly, vehicles have also stayed off the main roads. Policemen in large numbers have been stationed at the cross-roads in the main market.

The Lalitpur police said extra caution has been adopted to prevent untoward incidents during the shutdown. The protesters had attacked and torced some vehicles on Sunday for defying the shutdown. RSS
