KASKI:- Nepali Congress candidate Krishna Chandra Pokhrel has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province.
State Chief Sita Kumari Poudel on Saturday appointed Pokhrel as the Chief Minister as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution.
Pokharel, who is also the leader of the parliamentary party, had demanded the appointment of 31 MPs from Gandaki.
Pokharel, claiming to be the chief minister, had on Friday registered a letter with the chief minister, which had the support of a majority of 31 MPs in the state assembly.
State Chief Sita Poudel had called for submitting the claim letter by 3 pm on Saturday. However, Congress, UCPN (M), Jaspa and Janamorcha MPs staged a sit-in protest saying that no appointment was made within the time limit.
Pokhrel, a 71-year-old leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, is a directly elected MP from Nawalparasi East 1 (a).
Pokharel, who was born in Tanahunsur, Tanahu on December 29, 2006, became a district member of the Nepali Congress in 2028 BS.
Krishnachandra Nepali Pokhrel, who was imprisoned more than six times during the agitation, was also involved in student politics before that.
Pokharel, who became a member of the Nepali Congress Tanahu district in 2028 BS, is a graduate of two subjects.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Darbhanga, India, and a law degree from Tribhuvan University.
After 48 years, he has been the district president of Nawalparasi Congress for almost 20 years.
He was defeated in the 2048 BS election from the then Nawalparasi-4.
He then did not become a candidate in the House of Representatives and the Constituent Assembly.
He has also served as a central member of the Nepali Congress for one term. In the 13th General Convention, Nepalis were defeated as central members.
Of the four brothers, Nepali is the eldest. His brother Ram Chandra Pokhrel was the Chief Secretary of the Nepali Congress Central Office. Former Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel is the brother of Nepali.
