Koirala says principles adopted by NC still relevant ; UML leader blames Maoist deviating from polls

ILAM: President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, has said that the principle of nationality, democracy and socialism adopted by NC is equally relevant today as well as the country is passing through difficult transitional phase.

He directed the party cadres to carry out works by keeping the nation in paramount position. Inaugurating the newly constructed BP Park and unveiling the life-size statue of BP Koirala in Ilam today, Koirala directed the party cadres to organize election-focused programs as the election is the backbone of democracy.

He also directed to recommend names of candidates to central committee by discussing and coordinating in regional level without disputing over tickets in the next election.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press meet in the Capital CPN-UML secretary Shankar Pokharel blamed the UCPN-Maoist for trying to impede the road ways to the mid-November polls by picking on the issues to remove the provision of one per cent threshold on proportional representation.

He also blamed the Maoist for trying to deviate from the elections in various excuses. He also charged that UCPN-Maoist is reluctant to bring disgruntled factions to the talks table to ensure timely elections. CPN secretary further stressed that the election is a must, and there is no point waiting for agitating the CPN-Maoist decision for their participation in the election. Likewise, he picked on the government’s helplessness by not being able to provide security to voter list collectors for the election process.
