Nepali Congress has proposed party president Sushil Koirala as the candidate for the Prime Minister of national consensus government as demanded by the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.
The meeting of the office bearers held today morning at Koirala’s own residence Maharajgung decided to forward him as the PM candidate on behalf of the party.
The Central Working Committee is underway to endorse the decision of nominating Koirala as the Prime Minister. Vice-president Ramchandra Poudel will propose his candidacy and party senior leader Sher Bahadur Dewa will second it. Earlier, Poudel and Deuwa, who were also in the fray for the Prime Minister, have quit the race for the Prime Minister clearing the way for the party president to be the PM candidate unanimously.
Emerging out from the meeting Poudel said: “I will propose the name of Sushil ji for consensus PM and the senior leader Sher Bahadur will back the decision.”
Congress is going to present Koirala as the candidate of the Prime Minister just one day before the termination of the deadline of the second announcement made by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav for the political parties to forge consensus on a national consensus government.
The opposition parties including CPN (UML) were criticizing the Congress for being unable to propose the PM candidate from the party. The main ruling party UCPN (Maoist) had also urged the Congress to come up with a PM candidate with a road-map to end the current political disputes during the meeting of major three parties held yesterday.
However, Congress was saying that it would name the PM candidate from the party if the incumbent Prime Minister quits and consensus is forged among the parties to accept congress leadership for the government.
Likewise, Congress will also come up with a road-map to end the current political impasse through its CWC meeting as demanded by the UCPN (Maoist).
