New York: Khushbu Mishra was crowned Miss Nepal USA 2014 on Sunday afternoon in New York. The Ohio resident left behind 14 competitors to win the title as well as a scholarship worth USD 5,000, a two-way ticket to Nepal and an acting offer for director Suraj Subba Nyalbo’s next film.
California’s Sushma Sharma won the title of First Runner-up while Norwood’s Sushma Adhikari was the Second Runner-up. They were awarded with scholarships worth USD 3,000 and 2,000 respectively.
Organized by E-Planet Nepal in association with Event Planet Inc, the event took place in New York. According to the organizers, 10% of the amount raised from the ticket sales will go to the landslide victims in Sindhupalchowk.
Miss Nepal 2011 Malina Joshi was the emcee for the program where singer Hemanta Rana and YouTube sensation Bhim Niroula presented some of their popular tracks. Nepali ambassador to America Durga Prasad Bhattarai was also present at the event as the chief guest while Non Resident Nepali-International Coordination Committee (NRN-ICC) Chairman Shesh Ghale was the distinguished guest.
The jury included banker Raveena Desraj Shrestha, film director Suraj Subba Nyalbo and Dr Upendra Lal Karna.
