KATHMANDU:- Many areas in the Kathmandu Valley have been littered with heaps of garbage as the waste collection has been halted for some days following the blockage of the road leading to the dumping site at Okharpauwa of Nuwakot.
As a result, river banks and several other places in the Kathmandu Valley have been polluted much.
Garbage at many places is yet to be managed, said Dr Mala Kharel, board member of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation.
She witnessed heaps of garbage at Bagmati riverbanks at many places when she along with others rafted in the river from Thapathali to Sundarighat on Saturday. The rafting was managed by a river conservation organisation every year.
On the 432nd week of the Bagmati Cleaning Mega Campaign on Saturday, Thapathali area was tidied up.
More than 150 people from various walks of life attended the campaign.
