KATHMANDU: Leaders of four political parties, who have recommended for the appointment of former Chief Secretary Lokman Singh Karki of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) have gradually changing their tone and trying to get public sympathy by making different excuses.
One day after Central Committee meeting of the CPN-UML alleged that the appointment was made under the pressure of foreign forces, which is indeed made through the recommendation of the four major political parties, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said that the appointment of the head of CIAA was a result of the given context and out of compulsion.
Releasing a book ´Omkar Prasad Shrestha : Bichar ra Rachana´ by Congress leader Omkar Shrestha in the Capital on Sunday, he said a challenging decision was taken in order to fulfill the need and responsibility towards fulfilling the vacuum in the constitutional bodies for a long time.
“The CJ-led government and the appointments to the constitutional bodies were both controversial but a result of context and compulsion. These incidents have been a great learning”, he said. However, he said there was no point making it an issue of debate as it would weaken democracy and nationality, Koirala added.
The student unions of four major political parties, who organized customary protest program, withdrew their general strike slated for today citing different reasons.
Meanwhile addressing a program in Dhanusa, an influential leader of Nepali Congress leader, Bimalendra Nidhi, said federalism does not have space in the UCPN-Maoist´s ideology. He said the UCPN-Maoist talks about federal democracy but has been preparing for a unitary system and that there have been difficulties to write constitution.
He said Nepali people would not be the masters of their country unless the Constituent Assembly promulgates new constitution, and urged one and all to vote for giving majority to NC to ensure federalism in the country.
