KATHMANDU: Journalist Arjun Giri has been released from police custody. Editor of Tandav weekly, published from Pokhara, Giri was arrested under the Electronic Transaction Act for writing news.
He was released following an order of the Kathmandu District Court. A single bench of Justice Amber Raj Poudel issued the order to release Giri on a general date. Giri had been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on April 15.
It may be noted that the Federation of Nepali Journalists and other rights-based organisations had launched nationwide protest programmes, calling for immediate release of journalist Giri.
