Jayatu Sanskritam movement commemorated


KATHMANDU:- The ‘Jayatu Sanskritam’, the first student’s movement in the country that took place on 1st Asar, 2004 BS (15 June 1947) has been commemorated amid a function here today. The movement was commemorated via zoom conferencing with the participation of different Sanskrit Scholars and students this year.
The first student’s movement was called demanding democracy against then Rana regime and to include the modern subjects including Maths, Science, English, Economics Geography among others in the curriculum of the students of then Rajakiya Sanskrit Vidyalaya (Sanskrit College) nearby the Ranipokhari in Kathmandu.
Purna Prasad Brahman, Sribhadra Sharma, Kamal Raj Regmi, Ram Prasad Neupane, Rajeshwar Devkota, among others had led the movement for the change in curriculum and political system in the country.
Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel addressed an interaction programme organized by Sanskrit Students’ association via zoom meeting today and opined that it was movement of social and political change against the Rana regime.
Diplomat Dr Jayraj Acvharya, lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal, Jayatu sanskitam chair Badri Pokharel among others attended the interaction.
