N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU: It finally appears that parties could be reaching a deal on awarding some top positions in the army to Maoist nominees.
The UCPN-Maoist has been insisting two colonels and four lieutenant colonels something which was not agreeble to the army so far.
Now it appears likely that parties may seal such a deal within a week.
Moreover former rebels have sought representation in the army secretariat too. A meeting of the Special Committee scheduled for Sunday did not take place.
Devendra Poudel, an aide to prime minister, said the meeting was deferred as preparations for the cross-party committee meeting were incomplete.
It is learned that parties are yet to reach an agreement on the representation of combatants in the secretariat.
Earlier there were claims that agreement could be reached on Sunday. However the progress seems to be stalled by intra party squabbling in the ruling party.
Poudel said much of the attention is going to intra party row, with the growing schism taking heavy toll.
