N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU: Here is a ready route to another extension to constituent assembly beyond May.
That, as Sambhu Thapa, an advocate, who was once known for his royal connection says, is through activation of emergency provision in the interim constitution.
He was one of those who drafted it.
A lawyer who is known for his sturdy character had contested election to constituent assembly but lost on the CPN-UML ticket.
Thapa has come with the remedy while talking with journalists. While the suggestion is certainly a million dollar booty but can still be billed a suicidal one.
In other words he is suggesting the political parties to take a suicidal course.
Meanwhile Congress chief whip Laxman Ghimire is also not very happy with the final decision of the Supreme Court that said there cannot be another extension to constituent assembly.
He has rightly said that it is the prerogative of the parliament to extend the term no matter how many times. It is of course a different matter that political parties are wasting time in coming to decision that should not take long.
However since the court, an arbiter of law, has ruled there shall be no more extension, the Congress party is left to take the poision. Party will be true to rule of law.
Ditto Chief Whip Bhim Acharya of the CPN-UML.
It is the prerogative of the parliament to extend the term. But, there is no alternative to draft the constitution within the stipulated deadline.
Dev Gurung, a Maoist hardliner and chief whip, is of the view that the political parties should immediately settle peace process related disputes and shorten the constitution drafting process to promulgate the constitution within the available time frame.
