Israeli envoy stresses on agriculture development

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Ambassador of Israel to Nepal Yaron Mayer has said that economic progress of any country is possible through the development of agriculture and suggested Nepal to mobilise youth farmers for increasing agro production and productivity.

Addressing an orientation programme for youth students selected for 10-month training under the Agricultural Trainee Programme jointly funded by the Israeli Embassy and Small Farmers Development Bank today, the Ambassador said Nepal has abundant possibility of agricultural development.

The training will be imparted at various agricultural training centres in Israel.

The Israel Government is impressed by the dedication to work, hard labour and skill of Nepali students selected for training in the past, that is why Israel has increased quota for Nepalis this year, he added.

Bank Chief Executive Officer Jalan Kumar Sharma stressed Nepali students should return to home and make contribution to the promotion of agricultural sector after completing the course in Israel.

According to information shared at the programme, last year, 205 Nepali students were selected for the training while this year the Bank has planned to send 5,015 for the same.

Each trainee will get over Rs. 100,000 monthly.

Meanwhile, the new Israeli ambassador is scheduled to present his letter of credence to President Ram Baran Yadav on coming Thursday, the Embassy said.
