IPWN demands full implementation of proportional representation at political sphere


KATHMANDU:- The Inter-party Women’s Network (IPWN) has sought the guarantee of one-third representation of women including the participation in the posts of office bearer in every political party.
The IPWN has drawn the attention of political parties towards the full implementation of the Constitution and the Election Act.
In a press statement today, IPWN Chair Kalyani Rijal says the issues of women are the issues of the entire society and nation and they should be recognized accordingly in view of the upcoming general conventions of major political parties.
The women’s proportional representation in every political parties and the every state organs is mandatory to build a prosperous, progressive and equitable society based on gender equality and social justice and this is the main spirit of the Constitution as well”, the IPWN reminds political parties through the statement.
“The presence of political parties is decisive in regard with formulating policies and their implementation in any democratic state,” the IPWN said, adding that the mission of nation building would remain unmet by excluding women from the policy and decision- making level.
