KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has sent an invitation to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to visit Nepal.
A meeting of the Committee for the Comprehensive Development of Lumbini on Friday morning had urged the PM to send the invitation to Moon.
Member of the Committee Dr Minendra Rijal said that the meeting centered on creating conducive environment for Moon’s visit to Nepal and to strategies for developing Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi as integrated peace cities.
Rijal has also been appointed as spokesperson to the committee.
The visit will boost peace process and development of Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha.
Before this some preliminary meetings had taken place at Prime Minister Office led by Secretary Lilamani Poudel and Ministry of Tourism recently in a bid to find Nepal’s position during the visit.
Nepal’s long association in its peace keeping operations and decade-long association with Lumbini development and are again likely to be chief agendas for discussion.
