KATHMANDU: Emphasis has been laid on investing in development of human capital by taking it as an important aspect for the prosperity of the nation. Participants of ‘Bhutan-Nepal Human Capital Forum’ that began in the capital from Wednesday stressed the need of forwarding development projects with a special priority to human capital.
The World Bank has launched the ‘Human Capital Project’ with a conclusion that any country could not move ahead on the path of prosperity without a strong human capital, also an important tool to achieve sustainable development goals. The World Bank, which has brought the project into implementation from last year, has also started this project in Nepal and Bhutan.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day forum, Minister for Finance, Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, said human capital is meaningful tool for development. Pointing out the need of skills, health, education, encouragement and dedication for human capital linked with sustainable development goal, Finance Minister Khatiwada expressed the view that it would help formulation of economic strategy if natural resources would be utilized to the maximum by developing technological and physical capital.
He pointed out the need of linking skilled human resources with opportunity, arguing maximum benefit could not be achieved if balance between social and economic sectors was maintained.
The Finance Minister said that the incumbent government has made arrangement of sufficient budget in drinking water, education and health, adding that further discussion was necessary on the issue of benefits that Nepal can get from the programme launched by the WB.
