Indian Prime Minister pledges all possible assistance for upcoming CA polls; Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has informed that Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has agreed to provide all possible assistance for upcoming CA election and economic development in Nepal.

Dahal, who returned Nepal after completing his four day long trip to India, said so after his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Singh at the latter’s residence in Race Course Road, New Delhi on Tuesday.

Singh during the 45-minute meeting with Dahal laid an emphasis on early CA elections in Nepal. The Indian PM also congratulated Dahal upon the successful completion of the peace process, especially the integration of the former Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army.

“Indian PM Manmohan Singh asked me about the possibility of holding Constituent Assembly polls in November,” said Dahal,” I assured him about the timely polls.”

It has been learnt that the Indian PM was positive about Dahal’s proposal of a tripartite partnership among India, China and Nepal. PM Singh was, however, of the opinion that the proposed tripartite partnership among the nations could only be possible after an enhanced bilateral partnership between Nepal and India.

On his recent China visit, Chairman Dahal had also floated the proposal regarding the tripartite partnership with the Chinese leaders. In the meeting, Dahal tried to allay India’s security concerns and tried to assure his counterpart that there would not be any anti- Indian activities in Nepal.

Chairman Dahal also urged the Indian PM to arrange time for his Nepal visit, reminding that it has been ages since an Indian PM visited Nepal. In response, PM Singh said that he would try his best to visit Nepal in near future and that he always wanted to visit the neighboring Himalayan nation.

Senior leader of UCPN-Maoist Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad, Indian National Security Advisor Chairman Shiv Shanker Menon and Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai were also present during the meeting. Dahal also held a lunch meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid today.
