Indian Ambassador discusses political issues with UML leader Nepal; Visiting Army Chief meets top British Officials


KATHMANDU: As the elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA) approaching Foreign Diplomats have expedited their consultations about the ongoing political situation of the country. In a bid to take stock of the political situation of the Country, newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has called on senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s residence in Koteshwor on Tuesday.

During the meeting, they discussed on polls to the Constituent Assembly (CA), contemporary politics, and issues of mutual welfare between the two countries. In the one-hour long meeting, leader Nepal told Ambassador Rae it was not worthwhile to doubt on elections being held as the government, political parties and bodies concerned have been active for the preparations of the election declared for November 19.

Similarly, the Indian Ambassador expressed concern growing differences between people of both the countries. He told leader Nepal that although both neighboring countries share various issues, the relation between both the countries is widening. He discussed on how to maintain cordial relations between both the countries.

Similarly, Chief of the Army Staff General Gaurav Shamsher Rana, who is currently in the visit of the United Kingdom, met the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister, Hugo Swire, and the top army officials in London. General Rana called on Minister Swire on Monday, according to the Nepal Army.

A statement issued by the NA said, the British minister appreciated Nepal Army’s role during the integration of former Maoist combatants. Nepal’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise was also present on the occasion.

General Rana separately met the UK’s Chief of Defence Services General Nicholas Hounghton and Chief of the General Staff General Sir Peter Wall. They held discussion on bilateral relation between the UK and Nepal, and the mutual cooperation between the armies of two countries.

Leading a three-member delegation that included Maj Gen Victor Shamsher Rana and Major Sandeep Basnyat, the Nepal Army chief embarked on an official visit to the United Kingdom on September 6. The team is scheduled to return home on September 12.
