KATHMANDU: Although the four major political parties have agreed to form the Chief Justice led government for holding the election of the constituent assembly as they could not agree on the name of any leader of the political parties, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that Chairperson of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi should be ready to resign from the post of Chief Justice if the dissenting parties like CPN-Maoist-led by Mohan Baidhya and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal are ready to participate in the fresh elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA).
Speaking at an interaction in the Capital on Sunday, NC President Koirala said that Regmi should resign from the post to pave the way for the elections of the constituent assembly as it is crucial to resolve the problems dogging the country.
On the occasion, Koirala lamented that parties are not able to hammer out a consensus on the burning issues after the UCPN-M and UDMF backtracked from the 11-point political understanding and 25-point presidential decree removing the constitutional difficulties, adding that the UCPN-Maoist is against the forthcoming CA elections.
Koirala also made it clear that his party would not deviate from the stance of 491 seats in the constituent assembly and one percent threshold for the proportional representation. He also made it clear that the election of the constituent assembly would take place in November at any cost. He also warned that those who are not in favor of elections will be vanquished.
Meanwhile, addressing a program in Kanchanpur today, General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Prakashman Singh, has said that an election government led by Khil Raj Regmi should move ahead as per the four-party consensus.
He said the Regmi-led government was formed by four political parties to hold election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the government should create an election environment as per the direction of the four parties. The NC General Secretary also stressed that a written constitution should be brought by holding CA election at the earliest. He also expressed confidence that the CA election would bring peace and stability in the country.
He suggested an environment should be created for the participation of the agitating 33-political parties in the election through the medium of high-level discussions. However the leaders of four major political parties had done nothing to convince the leaders of 33-political parties to take part in the elections.
