Narayan Dhungana, KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, has said he would focus on fulfilling people’s aspiration and upholding the country’s image. At a welcome programme organized after his oath taking on Wednesday, Minister Bhattarai viewed, “You’ll give works to me. I begin discussion from tomorrow on what activities would help country face challenges and ensure success and what Prime Minister and people have expected.”
He shared that after some days he would sign a contract of service with the Prime Minister and begin works accordingly, “We say what we do, and we inform people which we can’t do and why.” The Minister further said there would be little direction because the works would be launched on the basis of collective decision.
He also shared that he became the Minister not in planned manner but out of a new context. “So, I’m here not to order others to work, but to learn. The national pride project under the Ministry and Visit Nepal Year 2020 would be made successful,” he committed. No stone would be left unturned to achieve the national goals; the credibility of Nepal Airlines Corporation would be retained.
The Minister also urged the media not to print congratulatory messages and expressed gratitude to the party leadership that appointed him to this post.
‘I’m Adhikari’s successor’
Remembering his political colleague and former Tourism minister Rabindra Adhikari, who lost his life in a tragic helicopter accident last February, as a young politico and intimate friend, Minister Bhattarai made it clear that the context evolved to make him a new Minister. “This Ministry actually was in his need. But, we can’t conquer nature. I’ve come as his successor. I’ve no qualm, but pride on it,” he observed, adding that the important initiatives the late Adhikari took would be continued.
‘I’m together with media’
Bhattarai also said he would not shy away from the media, but would be together with journalists. Media has vital role on nation building. “We’re under your watch. I think the responsibility of building the nation is on all of us- from PM, minister, employee to the media persons. Except confidential and personal matter, the Ministry is always transparent for journalists. Today’s world is transparency and accountability. Every work will be participatory.”
He however said some works in the Ministry were challenging. He showed readiness to achieve the success in 2020. Moreover, the newly appointed Minister said in case of the construction of the national pride projects as Pokhara and Gautam Buddha International airports would not complete in time, activities would be forwarded to make the Visit Year 2020 successful. “We discuss the progress rate, try to solve problems and complete projects on time.
Efforts to make Nepal Airlines No 1
Similarly, at a time when the Nepal Airlines Corporation has received criticism, he announced, “We will work in way to wow the Nepal Airlines. For it, discussion will be forwarded.” Other priorities as he said were upgrading of the domestic airports, working together with private helpful hands.
On the occasion, Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Dhan Bahadur Budha, expressed confidence that Minister Bhattarai’s arrival in the Ministry would help achieve national resolution of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. RSS
