N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has urged leaders and cadres across the country to support him as he will be the candidate for the post of party president at the upcoming party general convention.
Senior Leader Poudel has requested for the necessary support and assistance in electing the party president for one time at a meeting of central members close to him on Friday.
“I want to lead the Congress for once, for that you have to help me,” Poudel said at the meeting. “I was not compared to President Sher Bahadur. I am able to lead the party or the government. ‘
Within the Congress, some leaders have been holding the view that President Deuba and senior leader Poudel should retire from the leadership.
Poudel urged not to compare himself with Deuba, insisting that he had not been tested for leadership. “Don’t put me in the same basket as President Deuba,” he said.
As the 14th General Convention draws near, the race for leadership has begun. After Nepali Congress president, Deuba and vice president Bimalendra Nidhi intensified the preparations, senior leader Poudel has intensified his activities.
On Friday, he appealed to the central members close to him for the necessary support and assistance to be elected party president once and for all. But more than half a dozen from Paudel faction leaders claimed leadership.
Congress General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala, Former General Secretary Prakashman Singh, Central Member Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Sujata Koirala, Arjun Narasimha KC, Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, and Kalyan Gurung claimed leadership.
