KATHMANDU: As the agitating parties have continued their protest program against the elections of the constituent assembly, the high-level political commission (HLPC), the cross-party taskforce of four major political parties formed to assist the Chief Justice led government, has once again decided to reach out to the agitating political parties to convince them to join the election process as early as possible.
A meeting of the committee also formed a three-member team comprising UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal to hold talks to the disgruntled parties including the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist, Ashok Rai’s Federal Socialist Party and Upendra Yadav’s Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Nepal.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the major parties have criticized the Election Commission (EC) and its office-bearers for making “political statements”. The HLPC has made similar decision for many times but they are yet to make any tangible progress in this regard.
Meanwhile speaking at a program in Capital on Wednesday, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, who is also the chair of the HLPC, informed that they are ready to summon a roundtable conference as demanded by the CPN-Maoist if the latter shows readiness to participate in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls slated for November.
“We are ready to exhibit utmost flexible to conduct CA polls on November 19. If Baidya Ji agrees for polls, we are ready to call for a meeting of the parties represented in the dissolved CA and take up all the issues,” said Gachhadar, who is currently the coordinator of the High-Level Political Committee, speaking at the Reporter’s Club in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The former Deputy Prime Minister, however, ruled out the possibility of round table comprising of all political parties that represented in the erstwhile CA. He termed the CPN-Maoist’s demand to prorogue the CA election date as impractical.
He claimed that Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal and Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party are flexible to take part in the election. According him, he could not find a clear bottom line of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist despite it exhibiting flexibility of late.
