HLPC coordinator Dahal meets CPN-Maoist chair Baidya; requests him to join electoral process

KATHMANDU: As the High Level Political Committee, the cross-party taskforce of four major political parties formed to assist the Chief Justice led election government, is trying to convince the agitating parties to bring on board for holding the elections of the constituent assembly on time, UCPN-Maoist chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the coordinator of HLPC, held talks with Chairperson of CPN-Maoist Mohan Baidya and discussed the issue of election of the constituent assembly.

The meeting dwelt on the recent invitation for talks, sent by High Level Political Committee (HLPC) to the agitating 33 political parties, including CPN-Maoist.

During the meeting, Baidya told Dahal that the agitating parties would take a necessary decision provided the proposed talks would be held without any conditions. In response, Dahal said he would take up Baidya’s stance at today’s HLPC meeting. Dahal urged him to join the electoral process.

CPN-Maoist Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal informed that the two leaders held discussion on the purported elections and the invitation that the HLPC sent to the agitating parties for talks.

It has been learnt that Dahal made it clear to Baidhya that the HLPC’s letter sent to the 33 poll-opposing parties including CPN-Maoist did not pose any precondition for talks. Dahal told Baidhya that the HLPC meeting scheduled for today will further clarify the matter.

In response, Chairman Baidhya assured Dahal that his party and the alliance of 33 agitating parties will come up with clear decision if the HLPC calls them for talks without any precondition. The meeting took place ahead of the extended meeting of the UCPN-Maoist. An alliance of 33 political parties led by CPN-Maoist has been opposing the electoral process started by the Chief Justice led government. They have been demanding formation of the partisan government after holding round-table conference.
