HLPC calls all for unconditional talks; Taskforce submits report for constituency delineation

KATHMANDU: The High Level Political Committee (HLPC), the cross-party taskforce formed to support the Chief Justice led election government, has called on the agitating parties including Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist to take part in talks without conditions for their participation in the Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for November 19 later this year.

The meeting also concluded that the CPN-Maoist is not serious for talks, as it has been ignoring repeated calls of the four major parties represented in the committee to sit together and forge a consensus.

Leaders who participated in the committee’s meeting said they were shocked by the behavior of the CPN-Maoist. The CPN-Maoist has not sit for talks alleging that the government and the four major parties are yet to fulfill its demands. The party has been calling for unconditional talks while the major parties have been saying that they would not compromise on the issue of ouster of the election government led by Chief Justice and deferring the date for the election of the constituent assembly.

“We are surprised as to why they are not ready for talks. We have, however, decided to call them for talks again,” said UCPN-Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, while emerging out of the meeting.

Meanwhile, a task force formed to suggest the high level committee on delineating the electoral constituencies has submitted its report suggesting that key leaders need to discuss themselves to reach an understanding on the issue

The meeting also condemned the recent attack on a Madhesi People’s Right Forum Nepal leader in Mahottari and violent activities reported in some other districts meant to disrupt the forthcoming CA polls.

According to Shrestha, leaders in the meeting renewed their commitment that the CA elections on the scheduled date will be held at any cost.
