KATHMANDU: The High Court, Patan has refused to free former Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Krishna Bahadur Mahara on bail.
The bench of Chief Judge at the High Court Nahakul Subedi and Tek Narayan Kunwar, refusing to release Mahara, upheld the order of the Kathmandu District Court’s order to remand Mahara to judicial custody till the adjudication of the case.
Mahara, who has been remanded on judicial custody on the charge of attempt-to-raping a female staffer at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, will be held on judicial custody following the order of the High Court, Patan.
On 21 November, Mahara had submitted an application in the High Court pleading for release on general date, arguing that the Kathmandu District Court’s order to remand him in custody was illegal.
Kathmandu District Court’s Judge Sudarshan Raj Pandey on November 4 had issued an order to continue with the investigation remanding the accused on judicial custody.
