Govt committee to implement Mathema Report: Health Minister


KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has stated that some aspects of the report submitted by Kedar Bhakta Mathema -led committee for the new policy in the health education were already executed while some others are in the process of implementation.

Receiving the report informally, Minister for Health Khagaraj Adhikari and Secretary Shanta Bahadur Shrestha said the ministry would express commitment to fully implement the report regarding the tasks to be carried out on its behalf.

At a news conference organised by the Ministry in the Capital on Wednesday, they said that implementation of the report was initiated considering the level of seriousness of the issue though consultations were underway for its implementation.

It is said that the Ministry has directed the universities and medical academies for fixing the MBBS quotas in an objective manner, make provision for installment payment and arrange common entrance examinations for MBBS.

According to the information shared at the news conference, a six-member committee has been formed led by Education Ministry’s Joint Secretary Dr Hari Lamsal as the academic councils of the universities and academies should amend the Acts for the same.

On the occasion, Minister Adhikari said that the Ministry was working to make the medical education cheaper, accessible and qualitative.

Likewise, the Ministry has also asked the stakeholders to implement its decision to fix maximum retail price of the medicines.

KC puts off hunger strike

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Govinda KC has postponed the earlier announced hunger strike. Earlier, he had announced to begin his hunger strike for the sixth time demanding implementation of the report of the Mathema Taskforce and others. RSS
