Government felicitates victorious Nepali National Cricket team


KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi on Wednesday felicitated Nepali national cricket team players and Cricket Association of Nepal office-bearers on the recent success of the Nepali cricket team at the ICC World Cricket League Division-3 held in Bermuda. With this landmark success, Nepali side has also ascended to the Division-2 group of cricket playing nations.

On the occasion, Chairperson Regmi congratulated the players and also pledged to provide with Rs 350,000 each to all players and office-bearers, who participated in the championship.

Noting that the diligence of players has made it possible to enhance good name of the country at the international level, the Chairman said that the national team should toil harder to get success in the World Cup Qualifiers to be held in New-Zealand next year.

The champions were greeted by a crowd of fans and cricket officials upon their arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport this morning.

Saying that the government is committed towards developing professionalism in cricket, Regmi extended his best wishes to the team for the upcoming international tournaments.

Meanwhile, National Sports Council (NSC) and UCPN-Maoist also felicitated the champions by organizing separate functions here in capital. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced an award of Rs 100,000 to each players of the Nepali national cricket team while UCPN (Maoist) party provided Rs. 25,000 each to the champions.

Nepal now eye their entry to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, to be held in Australia and New Zealand, as they have progressed to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which will be held in New Zealand in 2014, featuring 10 of the leading Associate and Affiliate teams.
