
KATHMANDU: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has appointed Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai as the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.
The appointment has been made on the recommendation of Cabinet, as per the Article 150 of Interim Constitution, the Office of the President said in a press statement on Tuesday.
After Gyan Chandra Acharya was appointed the UN Under Secretary General and High Representatives for LDCs‚ LLDCs and SIDs, Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York had been without PR since September 1.
Bhattarai is a permanent resident of Bhojpur district. He joined the Civil Service in 1986. He had served as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN for four years from December 1998.
After Bhattarai leaves for New York, senior Joint-secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa will take up the post of Foreign Secretary.
