By Jyoti Dhakal, KATHMANDU:- Contradicting Indian External Affairs Minister S Jayashankar’s controversial remarks, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that Buddha was born in Lumbini and that he was in Nepal.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has corrected the statement made by the Minister about the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha. On Sunday evening, India mentioned that Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal.
Stating that Jaishankar’s remarks were related to Buddhist heritage, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, “There is no doubt that Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini which falls in Nepal.
After Jaishankar said at a conference that Buddha was an Indian, there has been strong opposition in Nepal. The Government of Nepal had formally refuted the statement of Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar that Gautam Buddha was born in India.
Nepal’s foreign ministry stated on Sunday refuting Foreign Minister Jaishankar’s statement.
A statement issued by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday said, “Historical and archeological evidence has established that Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal, and this fact is indisputable. Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha and the heritage of Buddhism is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
