Gandaki State’s new budget people-oriented: Minister Gurung

POKHARA: Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Kiran Gurung has stated that the newly released budget of the Gandaki State for the new fiscal year was oriented towards addressing people’s issues.

The State had unveiled Rs 34.84 billion budget for the fiscal year 2020/21 on June 15. Responding to the queries on the newly release budget, Minister Gurung said that the budget has allocated seed money for the commercial and skill-oriented training for those Nepalis at home and abroad losing their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, women, marginalized, disadvantage groups and disabled ones.

Further elaborating, Gurung said, “The State government will launch self-employment programme for not only those 150,000 youths losing jobs due to COVID-19 but also to all other unemployed youth.” The Minister pledged that all the action-plans for the ministries would be devised by mid-August and performance contract would be signed between chief minister and ministers, ministers and secretaries, and secretaries and project chiefs.

Preparations for implementation of the government programmes would be carried out within the first quarter of the new fiscal year and all those programmes and action-plans would be enforced with the beginning of the second quarter of the new fiscal year, according to him. He also shared that offices would be set up in all 11 districts in the State to implement projects related to road, bridge, forest, irrigation and drinking water. E-surveillance system would be made more effective for a regular and real-time monitory observation of all these development projects and such action would be conducted routinely from the ‘Action Room’ of the concerned agencies. The Gandaki State, he said, would forward the works relating to construction of dedicated hospitals for heart and kidney patients. Also, preparation would be made for constructing dedicated hospital for the cancer patients
