Gajendra Bahadur Hamal: Minister for three days, signing only one decision


KATHMANDU:- Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gajendra Bahadur Hamal has resigned after sharp criticism. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday.
Hamal, who was appointed as the minister on Friday afternoon, reached the ministry at 7.30 pm on the same day and took charge. Hamal, who has been the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies for three days a day, has been in office for only 40 hours a day.
After taking oath of office and secrecy at the President’s Office on Friday, he attended a short cabinet meeting and reached the Ministry of Transport at 7.30 pm. He was welcomed by two secretaries of the ministry, heads of divisions, heads of departments and heads of subordinate offices.

Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Dinesh Bhattarai, said that he had signed the decision to extend the deadline for the industries that failed to renew due to Kovid. The Minister was informed that a departmental briefing of the Minister would be held at the Ministry on Sunday after taking office.

On Saturday, Hamal attended the 48th meeting of the Board as an investment board member. The ministry had also issued notices to all subordinate divisions for briefings on Sunday, but Minister Hamal resigned without coming to the office for briefings.
