Addressing a program to mark the United States of America’s 237th Independence Day at his residence, Bodde said, “I want to stress that holding free and fair election soon is the best way to ensure a democratic, prosperous and inclusive Nepal.”
He further said that election is pre-requisite for democracy and added that a country without regular, free and fair elections cannot be considered as democracy.
He further said that the US government would be ready to extend necessary help to make election possible and take the country towards peace and stability. He also reminded that Nepal was also one of focus countries for President Barack Obama’s development initiatives on food, security, maternal and child health and climate change.
Declaration of Independence was announced on 4 July 1776, but it took 11 more years for the US to adopt its constitution on 17 September 1787.
High level government officials, including Vice President Paramananda Jha, former Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, Chief Secretary Lila Mani Paudel, representatives from the diplomatic community in Kathmandu, among others were present.
