Fraternal Organization of UCPN-Maoist demands to call back Ambassador Sharma

KATHMANDU: Alleging that Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar Maya Kumari Sharma did not work for the benefits of Nepali immigrant workers, the International Bureau of UCPN-Maoist has recommended the Central Committee of the party to call her back.

The bureau has blamed that the activities of the Ambassador are not friendly to immigrant workers, she has been maintaining close relations with the persons involved in duping the workers and she did not initiate efforts for the security of immigrant workers among others.

Sharma has been serving as Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar since last one year. She was selected for the post on the recommendation of UCPN-Maoist party. She has been receiving criticism for not being competent and not following diplomatic norms.

Representative of Nepalese communities have expressed strong reservation over her statement that Qatar is an open prison during her interview to Sajha Sawal program of BBC Media Action. They have cautioned that such statement of the Ambassador may bring negative consequence for the harmonious relations between both the countries. The Qatari embassy has also expressed reservation over the statement and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is mulling to seek clarification from the Ambassador to her statement.

Nepal’s diplomatic sector has been facing such incidents as Diplomats are selected based on their ideology rather than their competency.
