Founder of Communist Party Karmacharya passes away

KATHMANDU: Veteran communist leader and the only living founding member of Nepal Communist Party Nar Bahadur Karmacharya passed away on early Wednesday morning at the age of 90.

Suffering from jaundice and repeated bouts of high-fever for quite some time, Karmacharya breathed his last at the Model Hospital, Kathmandu. Hailed as the only surviving founding leader of CPN, he had been admitted to the hospital about two weeks ago.

Of late, Karmacharya had been serving as a member of the advisory committee in the UCPN-Maoist party since the Maoist party joined the political mainstream following the success of April uprising of 2006.

According to UCPN-Maoist party, Karmachayra’s body will be kept at party headquarters, Koteshwor this morning to pay last tribute to him. His body is also scheduled to be kept at Khulla Munch this afternoon to pay last tribute to him.

Some 64 years ago, four leaders including Karmacharya had established communist party in Nepal. There are dozens of communist party in the country at the moment, which groomed from the seed planted by Karmacharya and his three other comrades.
