
KATHMANDU: Unlike few years back, when the whole nation used to celebrate the birthday of former monarch, former King Gyanendra celebtared his 67th birthday in Kathmandu on Sunday with limited number of his supporters.
The Civil Main Celebration Committee presented gifts to former King Shah amid a function organized at Nirmal Niwas in Maharajgunj today. Wishing for good health and long-life, the Committee gifted statues of Pashupatinath and Buddha to the deposed King Shah.
Chairman of the Committee Dr. Ratna Kamal Baidhya said that importance of monarchy has increased in need for solidarity and harmony among various caste and ethnic communities in Nepal.
Well wishers of Shah reached Nirmal Niwas dressed in various costumes and with cultural pageantry. They also presented bouquets and gifts to Shah. Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Kamal Thapa reached Nirmal Niwas and extended his wishes to the former King.
However the number of visitors visiting former monarch wishing for his birthday has been increasing every year due to increasing frustration towards political parties. The former monarch recently visited some districts of Eastern Nepal and interacted with people. The former monarch is likely to embark visit of some more districts after his birthday. The former monarch has been interacting with local people and reaching to people in a bid for comeback to the power. Some royalist parties have been uniting for the elections of the constituent assembly in a bid to revive constitutional monarchy.
