Former Maoist combatants complete training to join Nepali Army


KATHMANDU: As an important step of completion of the issues of Maoist insurgency, the integration of former Maoist combatants to the Nepali Army has completed with the 1,352 completing their basic training.

A statement issued by the Nepali Army stated that the former combatants completed their basic training. 21 former combatants gave up the training for some reasons, the NA ‘s Directorate of Public Relations said in the statement.

A total of 71 officers have been receiving trainings at the Nepali Army Academy Kharipati and 1373 were receiving trainings at eight different training centres of the NA. The officer-level training is yet to complete. According to NA, the training of officers will complete by mid-September.

Some 479 former combatants underwent training at Trishuli-based Training Centre, 191 in Saljhandi, 80 in Itahari and 85 in Khairenitar. Similarly, 86 received training at Nepalgunj-based centre, 173 in Hile, 87 in Surkhet and 171 at No. 5 Training Battalion, according to NA. The NA informed that they will soon be deployed to their respective duty stations.

Army integration is a crucial part of the peace process and the training has played important role in establishing former Maoist combatants, who had opted for integration, as capable, disciplined and professional army personnel, the NA said in the statement.
