KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has shared that altogether 48 foreign delegates including mayors from five cities of different countries are arriving Nepal to observe Indra Jatra that falls on September 13 this year.
In a meeting organized by Newa Jagaran Forum with Indra Jatra organizing committee and social organizations here today, Mayor Shakya urged all the concerned stakeholders to celebrate Indra Jatra with great fervor.
Stating that Indra Jatra was earlier celebrated as a national festival, Shakya asserted that festival wherein Lord Indra is worshiped would be internationally recognized this year.
He said that the foreign delegates coming Nepal to observe this festival could be viewed in the positive for promotion of Visit Nepal 2020.
The Mayor shared that a revolving fund was going to be set up for organizing Indra Jatra. The Mayor informed that President Bidya Devi Bhandari had also taken an interest for setting up the revolving fund upto Rs 50 million.
Government has been declaring public holiday for Kathmandu Valley to mark the Indra Jatra.
