BIRATNAGAR: The Federal Limbuwan State Council (FLSC) has postponed its general strike in nine districts of the East, after enforcing the shutdown for three-and-a-half days, on Tuesday.
Issuing a press statement on Tuesday afternoon, the FLSC informed that it called off the ongoing bandh after the concerned authorities agreed to release all their detained cadres and provide free medical treatment to the injured in negotiations held today.
Council chief Kumar Lingden informed that the strike was put off to create an atmosphere for talks after the government agreed to release of council members arrested for obstructing voter registration in Budhabare- 6 few days ago.
However, Lingden said that the council would continue its peaceful agitation against the government by joining forces with 33 agitating political parties. The group further informed that their programs of obstructing citizenship distribution and voter’s list collection will go on. Now, they will picket the government offices, offices of VDCs, municipals, and Election Commissions and padlock them.
The life in the eastern districts—Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, and Terathum—were badly affected during the strike while there was nominal impact in Morang and Sunsari.
