Flood victims announce Darchula banda

DARCHULA: Flood victims in Darchula district have announced Darchula   banda on Monday.

The District Flood Victims Struggle Committee, Darchula , called a general strike demanding that the government provide relief and rehabilitate the flood victims in the district.

Around 200 demonstrators gathered in the Darchula district headquarters, Khalanga, and disrupted movement to and from India on the bridge over the Mahakali River, Darchula , along the Nepal-India border.

As a result, regular classes in educational institutions have been disrupted while local market and industries remain closed due to strike. Few people were found visiting the government offices in the district as the demonstrators also prevented them from going there.

As many as 158 houses were swept away and over 200 families displaced due to floods in June last year. The flood victims have been staging various protests for their rehabilitation and compensation since then.
