Finally NC forms Parliamentary Committee to pick candidates for CA Poll


KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, the oldest democratic party of the country, has finally formed the Parliamentary Committee for selecting candidates for the upcoming election of the constituent assembly slated for November 19.

The committee comprising party president Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba will get final endorsement of the party during today’s central committee meeting. The members of the newly formed committee are senior leaders Ram Sharan Mahat, Arjun Nurshing KC, Anand Dhungana, Formulla Mansor and Sujata Koirala from Koirala camp and Sher Bahadur Deuwa, Gopal Man Shrestha and Bimalendra Nidhi. Similarly, leader of Deuwa camp Purna Bahadur Khadka has been appointed as the Joint General Secretary of the party. Khadka was appointed for the post as per the agreement between both the factions to give joint general secretary to Deuwa group.

As per the statute of the party president have to get endorsed the decision by the central committee. The newly formed committee has the power to select the candidates for the upcoming election of the constituent assembly and party leaders representing at the government, so, the committee is considered as a powerful body in the organization.

Party President Sushil Koirala, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretaries Krishna Sitoula and Prakash Man Singh, Treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav, Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu and joint General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka are the ex-offico members of the committee.

The names of Shasank Koirala, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Dilendra Prasad Badu and Padam Narayan Chaudhari were removed from the list at the last moment following reservation by the party leaders. NC was not able to form the committee for a long time as there are many aspirants for the posts in the committee and Koirala group and Deuba group have been flexing mussels to get more portfolios to their side.
