Federal Socialist party formally withdraws support

KATHMANDU: The Federal Socialist Party has withdrawn its support to the government. The announcement was made a day after the party Chair Upendra Yadav and another leader resigned from the government.

Speaking at a press meet held here today, leader Yadav said the party has withdrawn its support to the government after concluding that it was no point remaining in the government that did not heed its calls for amendment to the Constitution. “We will instead play the role of an opposition in the parliament,” he said.

The FSP had joined the government in May 2018. Yadav was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, while another leader Mohammad Istiyak Rai was the Urban Development Minister. DPM Yadav had been transferred to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the latest cabinet reshuffle.
The party will now work to establish the agenda of the communities deprived of their rights, and in making corrections to provision related to forms of governance and proportional inclusion, Yadav added.
On another note, Yadav said there was no hindrance in the FSP uniting with the Rastriya Janata Party, if the latter was positive about it. He also ruled out the possibility of RJP joining the government.
