BIRGUNJ: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba viewed that equal participation of women in all state bodies would help make the state prosperous.
“Not only 33 percent, but 50 percent reservation for women should be ensured so as to mainstream them,” he said while inaugurating a two-day State level training organised in Birgunj by the Nepal Women Association on Thursday.
Addressing the training, President Deuba blamed that despite the objection from the major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC), the incumbent government had passed the policy and progarmme for fiscal year 2019/20 on the strength of the two-thirds majority.
He viewed that the government overlooked the differing views and protest of the NC and had worked in such a manner that would weaken the democratic system.
Participants of the programme held under the chairmanship of NC’s Nepal Women’s Association Central President Uma Regmi were Joint General-Secretary of NC Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, central committee members Ramesh Rijal, Farmulha Mansur, Dina Upadhyay among others. They also expressed their concern over the growing cases of violence in the country.
