
KATHMANDU: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Rukum at around 5:25 pm on Friday.
According to National Seismological Centre (NSC), the epi-centre of the earthquake was in the south-western part of the district. The tremor was felt in the Kathmandu Valley also. However, the European Seismological Centre and the Germany-based Helmholtz Centre put the magnitude at 5.
There were no immediate reports of damage to property or human casualty in the earthquake. Kathmandu valley is the most prone from earthquake and experts have been warning that the major earthquake might hit the city anytime. The government with support from different agencies has been preparing some open spaces for evacuation in case of mega emergency.
