Dr Govinda KC to end hunger strike after 8-point deal with government


KATHMANDU:- An eight-point agreement has been reached between Dr. Govinda KC and the government on Saturday. With this agreement, Dr. KC is going to end his 27-day hunger strike on Sunday.

An agreement was signed between Dr. KC and the government team at the Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj at midnight on Saturday.

The first point of agreement is the establishment of a government medical college and health science academy.

As per the agreement, educational programs including MBBS will be conducted from the next academic session by arranging necessary physical infrastructure and manpower in Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, Jumla.

It has also agreed to set up a government medical college in Geta in the far west.

The construction of Geta Medical College building has been completed. The physical infrastructure including hospital building, hostel building and staff building has been completed 80 percent. Other infrastructures are also under construction.

In order to make necessary legal arrangements for the operation of the medical college, the bill related to the Integrated Health Education Academy in the Council of Ministers will be submitted to the Federal Parliament in the coming winter session. As soon as the Act is promulgated, the physical infrastructure and manpower will be completed and educational programs including MBBS will be conducted by March 26, 2010.

The government and the KC faction have also agreed to establish a government medical college in Bardibas of Province 2.

Land acquisition and master plan has been approved by the government for the establishment of Bardibas Medical College. The environmental impact assessment is in the final stages of approval. Work on a detailed project proposal is currently underway.

It is also mentioned in the agreement that the work of developing physical and educational infrastructure will be expedited by allocating necessary budget for conducting educational programs including MBBS in this medical college by 10 February 2080.

Physical and educational infrastructure will be developed by allocating budget for conducting MBBS and other educational programs by March 26, 2080 BS at Pokhara Health Science Academy.

The Rapti Institute of Health Sciences has already passed a master plan from the Senate of the academy to run MBBS and other programs. Accordingly, a proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance to allocate budget for the development of physical infrastructure.

It is mentioned in the agreement that the foundation will be allocated budget to develop the infrastructure as per the master plan and will run MBBS and other programs by February 26, 2080 BS.
