KATHMANDU: The cabinet has appointed DR. Chiranjeevi Nepal a new governor of Nepal Rastra Bank for the next five-year term . His name is selected among the other two candidate that has been approved by the Finance Minister leading selection committee yesterday .
Chiranjeevi Nepal has done PhD in economics, Nepal has been involved in teaching at universities for the last 28 years. He has experience of heading another regulatory body—Securities Board of Nepal and is credited for bringing reforms in the stock market. An outspoken supporter of free market economy while discarding cooperative sector, he had courted criticism from the left parties when he was chief economic advisor at the Finance Ministry.
He has been the General Secretary of Nepal Economic Association .He has served a three year term as General Secretary of Nepal South Asia Centre since 1997. He was a Senior Advisor at FNCCI for two years and Chairman of SEBON for 14 months. Besides this, Dr Nepal was associated with World Bank as Consultant and Coordinator, Asian Development Bank as Consultant, Higher Secondary Education Board as Director, and Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and Foreign Ministry as Advisor.
