Door open for foreign investment: Dr. Mahat


KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Ramsharan Mahat has said door was open for bringing in foreign investment in development including infrastructure after the PTA and PDA agreements signed with India recently.
Inaugurating a Nepal-India dialogue forum on water and energy resources development – new policy framework for bilateral cooperation organized today by the Nepal Bharat Friendship Society, he said the government was ready to move ahead economic development by co-work with the private sector.
IMF and World Bank have also made commitment to invest in hydropower sector with a desire that Nepal be in the path of economic prosperity by utilizing water resources, he said.
“I met high officials of the multilateral donors in USA recently and they had changed concept towards Nepal,” he said.
Minister Dr. Mahat said, “We want that 900 mw Upper Karnali and 6000 mw Pancheswor Multipurpose Project are not delayed,” and expressed satisfaction that past agreements are implemented after Indian PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal.
Former Indian Energy Minister Suresh Prabhu, while discussing various dimensions in Nepal-India relations, said Nepal could achieve goal of economic growth through the development of water resources.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Ray said lack of concrete works in water resources had not only hampered Nepal, but also India, but now time should not be wasted.
He said misunderstanding had ended between India and Nepal with PM Modi’s visit and the construction of the 400 kV Dhalkebar-Mujaffarpur transmission line was expedited.
The programme was presided over by Society Chairman Prem Lashkari, whereas Vice Chairman Gokul Pokhrel apprised on various activities of the society.
