By N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- In the vortex of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP)’s “no more internal” dispute, chief opposition Nepali Congress’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba has turned out to be the “kingmaker” with the two disputing sides in a desperate bid to win Deuba’s favor.
On Thursday, January 14, 2021, NCP’s Nepal-Dahal faction leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” visited Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha urging him to forge an alliance with them and launch a joint protest against the government.
In response to Nepal and Dahal’s proposal, Deuba said he is not in a mood to launch a joint protest against the government and that Nepali Congress would chart out protest programs on its own.
“In case of the Supreme Court reinstating the House of Representatives, a joint government of Nepali Congress and NCP can also be formed,” Nepal and Dahal told Deuba during the meeting.
In return, Deuba said that he will wait for the Supreme Court verdict on the House dissolution case before taking a decision.
Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also held a one-on-one meeting with Deuba and reportedly proposed him to lead a new government in case of the Supreme Court reinstating the dissolved federal parliament.
“I would rather propose you to be the Prime Minister instead of anarchist Prachanda,” PM Oli told Deuba, according to sources.
In response to PM Oli’s proposal, Deuba said he would wait for the Supreme Court verdict.
During two separate meetings, both the Nepal-Dahal faction and PM Oli’s faction of NCP proposed Deuba to form a coalition to run for the election jointly, to which Deuba reiterated that he would wait for the right time.
“Deuba is well aware that both the factions of NCP may deceive him anytime. That’s why, he is not giving his word. It is wise in part of Deuba to wait and see as to how the situation unfolds,” said an analyst, who did not want to be named.
