Delay in poll might help reactionary forces to intensify their activities claims Dahal

KATHMANDU: Although the political parties have failed to create conducive environment for the elections of the constituent assembly, it is very easy task for them to blame others for their indecisiveness. Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the reactionary forces will intensify their activities if the announcement of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections date is delayed further.

Speaking at a program organized to mark Krishna Sen Ichchhuk Memorial Day in the Capital on Sunday, Dahal expressed his confidence that the political parties would forge consensus within few days paving the way for announcing the date for the elections of the constituent assembly.

He however tried to justify their stance for the threshold for PR seat and the size of the constituent assembly. He claimed that the parties have agreed not to enforce the threshold and reduce the size of the constituent assembly. However Nepali Congress and CPN-UML leaders have been saying that they have reached into an agreement to enforce threshold and also reduce the size of the constituent assembly.

Dahal reiterated such stand at a time when the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have been stressing on the need to keep the provision of threshold in the draft of electoral laws.

The four major political parties are sharply divided on the provision of the draft of electoral laws prepared by the Election Commission delaying the announcement of the date for CA polls.

Meanwhile a party source of UCPN-Maoist informed that the central committee meeting of the party is scheduled from June 8. The meeting will finalize the officials of the party and also allocate responsibility to the newly entered leaders of the party.

According to party source CPN-UML leader Ram Chandra Jha, who recently joined UCPN-Maoist will be the Standing Committee Member, while Urmila Aryal will get special responsibility in the party. According to source Prachanda is trying to reshuffle the responsibility of the party leaders as there might be disagreement to provide big responsibility to newly joined party leaders.

The party source informed that the party will give the responsibility of treasurer of the party to Hisila Yami. The meeting will appoint Secretary, Treasurer and other officials of the party. Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Barsha Man Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Giriraj Mani Pokherel are likely to be promoted for the secretary of the party, while Janardan Sharma and Ram Karki are likely to become the Standing Committee Member of the party.

Currently the party has been giving special attention to bring leaders of different political parties into the party taking into consideration the upcoming elections of the Constituent Assembly.
