Deceived By Prachanda, Ex-Maoist Combatants, Former Child Soldiers Support PM Oli

“PM Oli has assured us that he would address all our grievances and issues. We have agreed not to make everything public, but it is for sure that PM Oli is really committed to solve our problems,” said Lenin Bista, a former child soldier, who was forced by the then Maoist leadership to join the militia at the age of 13.

By N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- When Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” was at the helm of the nation as the prime minister of Nepal for twice, he did nothing for the welfare of combatants and their families “used” and later “trashed” by Prachanda after their “utility” came to an end.

They were provoked, manipulated and pressed at gun points to join the then Maoist militia and fight an illegal war against the nation by losing their families, homes, career, studies, time and youthfulness.

When Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli organized a special ceremony for them on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in the capital, they could not control their emotions and many of them turned tearful.

“We were cheated and betrayed for a number of times by Prachanda, who ruined our lives to an unprecedented level. It is pointless to support him anymore just because we are former Maoist commanders and child soldiers,” said a participant of the ceremony.

While addressing the ceremony, PM Oli said he would work seriously to provide facilities to ex-Maoist combatants and resolve their problems at the political level.

“The former leadership of Prachanda misused your feeling. It will not happen anymore, as you deserve love, respect, employment and decent life,” PM Oli said.

PM Oli was also positive on taking ahead the task of transitional justice, which is the only remaining component of the peace process signed by the then Maoists with the government of Nepal in 2006.
