Dalit-non-dalit elopement displaces Dalit family in Dhading


DHADING:  Ten Dalit families of Mulkharka village of Pida VDC have been displaced after non-Dalits attacked them when a Dalit boy married a non-Dalit girl.

Kaushila, Indira, Ram Bahadur, Reshman, Binda, Pyauti, Sita, Kopila, Shankar and Binda BK were injured in the attack. Not only them, others were also displaced from the attack. Condition of the remaining children is unknown as they are alone in the house.

Samjhana Subedi, who had inter-caste marriage with a boy of Dalit community on July 1, said that the attack was inhumane.

A total of 10 Dalit families have been displaced after Samjhana married with Navaraj Bishwokarma, 17, of Pida VDC-5.

Maternal side of Samjhana had thrashed family of Navaraj and neighboring Dalit families on July 3.

Not only Binda, but Indira Subedi, 23, who had inter-caste marriage in the same village three years ago, has also her left leg fractured when she tried to escape by jumping over the verandah.

She has a deep wound on the head in the attack. Samjhana’s maternal side has threatened to take life saying she arranged their marriage, said Indira.

Nawaraj’s mother Kaushila Sunar has been seriously injured because of the beating.  Indira has been undergoing treatment at the Gajuri Hospital.

Likewise, Kopila, Sita, and Shankar BK did not sit for examination in the school.  Their teacher Ram Badadur Subedi threatened to expel them from school. RSS
